The new rail timetable comes into effect across Europe on Sunday, and it has two more Nightjet lines in store. Travelers will then be able to go from Vienna to Paris three times a week.

There will even be a daily service from Zurich to Amsterdam. Furthermore, international direct connections will be expanded, ÖBB announced in a press release on Thursday. This concerns for example the routes Graz-Budapest and Vienna-Bregenz-Frankfurt am Main.

Night train from Vienna to Paris three times a week
The night train from Vienna to Paris departs the federal capital at 7:40 p.m. three times a week and arrives at Gare de l’Est at 9:42 a.m. the following day. From Zurich, the train departs daily at 9:59 p.m. for Amsterdam Centraal, where it arrives on schedule at 9:14. One-way tickets are available at 29.90 euros in a seating coach and 59.90 euros in a couchette coach.

In addition to the expansion in long-distance traffic, ÖBB promises extensions on the Graz-Linz route and a 15-minute interval on the St. Pölten-Vienna connection. Accordingly, commuters will be offered increased frequency and additional connections in the evening.

Innovations in ticket booking at ÖBB
There are also innovations in ticket booking. The tool “ÖBB Live”, which can be found at the travel preview in the ticket store, shows in all ÖBB-operated trains in Austria the info where which carriage with which equipment (carriage number, carriage class, bicycle stands, quiet zone, family zone, WC, on-board bistro, Infopoint, barrier-free seats, etc.) can be found, and additionally gives a forecast occupancy rate of the individual carriages in the ÖBB Railjets.

In addition, since November there has been a new information gong and a special information gong to increase the attention of rail passengers in the event of disruptions, for example.

Pricing system expanded
In addition, ÖBB says it has expanded its price system under the motto “those who book earlier and online travel cheaper”. The cheapest ticket can be booked in the app or on the web up to 15 days before departure. The variant of buying tickets on the day of travel and at the counter is the most expensive. At the counter, there will be an innovation for the ÖBB Vorteilscard for this from December 12, 2021: it will bring a 50 percent discount there in the future.
