The number of new coronavirus infections within 24 hours in Austria has risen significantly again.
According to data released by the Interior and Health Ministry on Wednesday, 4,224 positive cases were documented. This figure is above the average of the past seven days (3,755). In hospitals, meanwhile, there was a decrease in covid patients both in normal beds and in intensive care units.
According to statistics, as of Wednesday, 2,280 Covid patients required hospital treatment, down 106 from Tuesday and 630 from a week ago. 560 of the currently hospitalized patients were receiving care in intensive care units, down five from Tuesday. Within a week, the number of intensive care cases decreased by 78 ill patients.
The seven-day incidence for Austria was 294.3 cases per 100,000 population. Currently, 58,141 Austrians are suffering from coronavirus infection.
Most new infections in the past 24 hours were documented in the federal capital Vienna (845). There were 832 cases in Upper Austria, 691 in Lower Austria, 600 in Styria, 496 in Tyrol, 313 in Vorarlberg, 194 in Carinthia, 167 in Salzburg, and 86 in Burgenland.
The province with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Vorarlberg with 528, followed by Carinthia, Tyrol and Upper Austria (385.2, 368.1 and 335.9, respectively). Lower Austria (275.7), Styria (272), Salzburg (262), Vienna (213.2) and Burgenland (194.6) follow.
