From Christmas Day to St. Stephen’s Day, 1,717 new infections were registered in Austria. Under 2,000 new cases have already been recorded once this week – on Monday, December 20.
Although this is below the average of the past seven days with 2,130 cases, according to the figures of the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Health, the number of tests on the holidays also decreased. There were nearly 200,000 fewer tests than were reported as recently as Dec. 25.
This brings the number of active cases down to 29,486, so the seven-day incidence also dropped from 172.8 to 166.9 cases per 100,000 population.
In addition, there are only eight new deaths associated with Covid 19 infection to report – the fewest since October. In the past seven days, 155 deaths have been recorded. Overall, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 13,634 lives in Austria since its outbreak.
