After three days with strongly increasing numbers, there was even a minimal decrease on Thursday with 3,225 new Corona infections in Austria after 3,251 registered new infections on the previous day. The number of hospital treatments also continued to decline, with 1,121 people there, 26 fewer than on Wednesday. 345 people needed treatment in intensive care, a decrease of eight.
With Thursday, there are 29,068 active cases in Austria, 434 more than the day before. The positive rate of the 348,734 PCR tests was 0.9 percent Thursday, above the weekly average of 0.4. Twelve coronan virus-related deaths were reported Thursday, up from 106 in a week. Overall, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 13,701 lives in Austria since the outbreak.
Vaccination rates were also above the weekly average; of the 48,141 vaccinations on Wednesday, 4,701 were first shots, 13,688 were second shots and 29,752 were third shots. 6,315,311, or 70.7 percent of Austrians, have valid vaccination protection. The protection rate is highest in Burgenland with 76.2 percent, while Upper Austria continues to bring up the rear with 66.3 percent.
Upper Austria, at 130, is also the province with the lowest seven-day incidence; the highest is currently in Tyrol, at 308.4, followed by Vienna, Vorarlberg and Carinthia (240.4, 222.9 and 173.1, respectively). The seven-day incidence for all of Austria is 186.
