The lockdown for people without valid proof of Corona vaccination or recovery will be extended in Austria until January 10, 2022, for the time being.

The main committee on Thursday reached agreement with Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein on the fourth amendment to the sixth COVID-19 protective measures ordinance with the votes of the ÖVP, SPÖ and Greens, giving the green light to update the ordinance, parliamentary correspondence reported.

Exemptions for December 31 and January 1, 2022.
With the amendment, the slight relaxations approved for New Year’s Eve celebrations on Dec. 31 will also apply on Jan. 1. After New Year’s Day, the restrictions on exit regulations imposed with the December lockdown on shopping, work and leisure will again apply to anyone who cannot provide proof of 2G. Children up to the age of 12 are exempt from the regulations, with the legal provisions in this regard being standardized. In addition, a major change is that certificates issued on the basis of single-use vaccines will expire on January 3, 2022. This means that corresponding booster and booster vaccinations for all vaccines will be required for 2G detection.

Corona lockdown for unvaccinated extended in main committee
According to Mueckstein, the regulation is intended to respond to the expected strong wave of infections from the omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus. He said it is important to avoid overloading the health care system and critical infrastructure at all costs. Members of the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) and the Green Party explicitly shared this assessment. The next main committee is scheduled for January 10, 2022.
