From yesterday to today, 17 new deaths linked to Covid-19 were registered in Austria.
44,465 Corona infections were reported in Austria on Saturday, a week after the “opening day,” with most measures largely gone except in Vienna. With this record value for this day of the week, the seven-day average thus increased to 39,510, the seven-day incidence to 3,079.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and is therefore again above 3,000.
The opening steps acted as an “infection accelerator”; last Saturday, 31,289 new infections and 289,414 active cases were counted, now 373,314, an increase of almost 30 percent in seven days. The rise in hospital patients was less dramatic, with 2,754 people reported on Saturday, compared to 2,547 a week ago, an increase of about eight percent. The number of intensive care patients has decreased by ten percent or by 21 to 181 people in the same period.
There have been 17 deaths since yesterday, with a seven-day average of 27.7 daily and a total of 194 deaths in a week. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 15,180 lives in Austria since it broke out.
A total of 664,807 PCR and antigen rapid tests were reported in the past 24 hours, of which 615,523 were conclusive PCR tests with a positive rate of 7.2 percent. This 24-hour figure is slightly below last week’s average of 7.9 percent.
Five thousand one hundred ninety-eight vaccinations were administered on Friday, of which 468 were first-time vaccinations. 69.4 percent of Austrians have proper vaccination protection, which means that this share is declining: it was 69.9 percent last Saturday. However, for the age group over 55 years, the vaccination protection is beyond 80 percent; for the 75 to 84 year-olds, it is 88.2 percent, and for the 85plus group, it is 85.4 percent. For children up to eleven years of age, 14.2 percent are reported.
