With or without a green passport? Things to consider when you spend the Easter holidays outside Austria

Many Austrians struggle through a jungle of Corona rules even when traveling.

3 G or PCR test? Do I have to fill out an entry form? What measures apply in the country? What do I have to consider when driving home? The virus is causing headaches in our travel planning this year as well. How to avoid any nasty surprises in neighboring countries:

▶Italy: One needs a valid green passport (in paper or digital form) and a pre-registration on the Internet. When eating pizza indoors, 3 G applies, in the swimming pool, at the spa, or in the cinema, even 2 G. The FFP2 mask must be worn on trains and buses and in indoor areas. Without proof, vacationers spend five days in a hotel room and undergo a Covid test.

Croatia: Vaccinated, recovered, or tested also applies to a trip to Rovinj or Porec. A digital Covid certificate is preferred – but paper works too (details: www.media.gv.at). The travel registration “Enter Croatia” is only recommended to speed up the process at the border. The document must be attached to the windscreen of the car. Registration at the border can also be done without a printout. The mouth-nose protection should also be in the suitcase: public transport and stores and cabs.

▶Slovenia: On the way to Croatia to stay overnight in Slovenia is entirely unproblematic: no proof, no form, no access restrictions in stores or gastro. In any case, it is advisable to have a valid passport with you. When passing through, it is essential to observe the opening hours of the border crossings.

▶Hungary: A spontaneous visit to the thermal baths or shopping day is relatively easy in our neighboring eastern country: Neither proof nor test or quarantine are required upon entry; there are no restrictions in stores, restaurants, or events.

▶Germany: 3G is required. Exception: first-degree relatives, or if custody is shared. The measures have largely already fallen; each state handles it differently.

▶Re-entry to Austria: Anyone over the age of twelve who cannot show valid proof of 3 G on the way home must fill out the so-called “Pre-Travel Clearance” in advance and go into quarantine for ten days. By the way, the Ninja passport counts as 3-G or even 2G+ proof.
