The masking requirement has already been lifted at some universities, but there has been an extension elsewhere.
Mask rules are gradually being relaxed at universities – but not at all institutions and not simultaneously. The Covid 19 Higher Education Act leaves the determination of Corona rules to individual universities. Accordingly, they are also currently structured differently in terms of masks.
Case of the mask obligation at the University of Salzburg
At the University of Salzburg, for example, the mask requirement will be dropped on Monday, May 9, but wearing an FFP2 mask is still recommended. The Technical Universities in Graz and Vienna, the University of Graz, the University of Economics and Business Administration, the University of Klagenfurt, the University of Leoben, the University of Music in Vienna, the Danube University Krems, and the University of Veterinary Medicine have also already lifted or suspended the mask requirement.
Mandatory masks at the University of Vienna
The University of Vienna, the University of Innsbruck, the University of Linz, the University of the Arts, the Mozarteum, and the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Boku), on the other hand, continue to require the wearing of masks in the lecture hall and during examinations. At the Academy of Fine Arts, the show continues to be compulsory if a distance of two meters cannot be maintained, and at the Kunstuni Graz, in all circulation areas and if a person in the room requests it.
Masks at medical university in Vienna
At the medical universities in Innsbruck and Vienna, masks must also continue to be worn during courses. The Medical University of Graz depends on where the system takes place: In those areas where patient contact may occur, the mask continues to be mandatory; in non-clinical areas, an urgent recommendation applies.
