Today, Thursday, the weather in Austria will remain unsettled – thunderstorms are also to be expected. The weather situation will then improve over the weekend.
The gradually eastward-moving cold front of low pressure “Nana” will cause showers on Thursday, but behind it, the air will remain unstably stratified and prone to storms. On Friday, the first feelers of an Azores high will spread into the Alpine region, and the weekend will be summery and calm across the country under the influence of high pressure.
Thursday will be cloudy and wet in the country, especially from the Tyrolean lowlands to the Salzkammergut. It will rain heavily. It will be somewhat friendlier in the northeast. Here only isolated showers will pass through during the day, and the sun will appear in between. It will also become increasingly wet and thundery in the evening. On the other hand, it will then loosen up somewhat in East Tyrol and Upper Carinthia with an upcoming northern foehn. Temperatures will not rise above 13 to 22 degrees.
On Friday, initially widespread and especially from the Salzkammergut to the Wienerwald, heavy rain, in places also thundery. In the west and south, as well as in the eastern lowlands, the rain will ease during the day, especially in East Tyrol and Upper Carinthia, the sun will appear with a foehn northwesterly wind. Sunny clearings are also a topic in Vorarlberg and the solid northwest wind in the east. Accordingly, the maximum values are between 15 and 23 degrees.
On Saturday, the weather calms down. In large parts of the country, a friendly sun-cloud mix sets in. Dense clouds will remain from the Tauern and the Salzkammergut to the eastern edge of the Alps, where individual rain showers are possible. In the east, a brisk northwesterly wind will blow at first. In the valleys south of the Tauern, it will be foehn in places. The wind will die down during the day, and temperatures will rise to between 20 and 28 degrees.
Sunday will offer a lot of sunshine after the dissipation of local residual clouds. Particularly in the Waldviertel and over the eastern mountains, a few spring clouds will appear, towards evening also in the west. Here, individual showers or an isolated thunderstorm can no longer be ruled out. Mostly, however, the day will end friendly and dry. Only in the east will the wind blow moderately to briskly from northerly directions, and with 22 to 30 degrees, it will be summerly warm.
