The rising infection figures speak a clear language: Corona does not begrudge us a summer break! In the hospitals, more beds for covid patients are freed up again. But new measures remain (for now).
Now they are omnipresent again, the Corona sufferers among family and acquaintances. Particularly affected directly are all those who were still spared from Omikron in the spring. On Friday, there were almost 9000 infected people throughout Austria. With 2858 new positive cases, the Federal Capital had the most recent infections. At the beginning of the week, Vienna was thus now at a total of more than 940,000 confirmed cases since the pandemic’s beginning. The million mark will hence probably be exceeded as early as July. In terms of seven-day incidence, Vienna currently ranks third in Austria, with 805 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, after Eisenstadt-Umgebung and Mödling.
The summer wave is rolling and has also arrived again in the Vienna city government. This week it also caught traffic town councilor Ulli Sima (SPÖ). Nevertheless, there are no concrete announcements to tighten the Covid measures again. Because of the rising infection figures, the organizers have asked visitors in advance to get tested for the Danube Island Festival.
