According to a recent Gecko (Government Covid Crisis Coordination) study, Corona immune protection in the Austrian population will decline, accelerating infection dynamics in the medium term.
“Vaccine protection declines continuously after about three months, but protection against hospitalization remains high,” Gecko member and virologist Andreas Bergthaler held. According to study results, a fourth Covid 19 vaccination is expected to halve the hospitalization rate and reduce mortality.
Corona vaccine boosters are recommended as soon as possible
Currently available Covid vaccines continue to show excellent properties for boosting vaccine protection and providing solid protection against severe disease progression, according to Bergthaler. Bergthaler also advocated for booster vaccination as soon as possible, especially since it is unclear when adapted variant vaccines will be available.
The fourth Corona vaccination in autumn makes sense.
Therefore, the fourth vaccination for all people 12 years of age and older would make sense at the latest when infection activity increases in the fall, according to information from the All-State Covid Crisis Coordination (Gecko).
