Prince Charles (73) wants to modernize the royal household. He also wants to move into a relatively small apartment in Buckingham Palace.

Prince Charles already cared about converting his estates to eco-farming in the past. The new “eco-king” already revealed some ideas on how he wants to modernize the royal family. At the top of the agenda is a “slimming diet.” Fewer official family members will be entitled to an appanage and lifetime residency rights in the apartments of various palaces (such as the Queen’s cousins).

Charles also intends to give up some of the country estates for private purposes and open them to the public – such as the summer residence Balmoral, possibly Sandringham Castle, and Windsor Castle. He and Camilla plan to move into only a relatively small apartment at Buckingham Palace and presumably spend more time at their latifundia (Birkhall in Scotland and Highgrove in Gloucestershire).

In his era, the question of the future of the Commonwealth will also play a crucial role. Barbados broke away from the crown in November 2021; Australia has long wanted to do so. Only recently, the ex-Caribbean colonies of Belize, Jamaica, and St. Vincent protested against a British head of state. The Queen could thus have been the last “ruler” to hold the confederation of conditions of the former empire together after her father.

It has probably already been decided, but the people do not know what Charles will call himself king. Many are guessing George VII. It is not assumed that he will keep his original name since King Charles I started the English Civil War and was beheaded in 1649. Charles II lived 18 years in exile and was known solely for his many mistresses. It is fixed that Camilla will become Queen. For her 70th anniversary on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II wished Charles’ consort to go down in history as Her Royal Highness Camilla, Queen Consort.
