All motorists in Austria should fill up their cars this week by Friday at the latest, advises ARBÖ President Peter Rezar: “Because the CO2 tax is coming on October 1, and that will make fuel a good 8 cents more expensive per liter.” A tankful of fuel for a vehicle with a 50-liter tank will cost around four euros more from next Saturday, which is why a rush to the gas stations must be expected before then.
“If too many motorists want to fill up at the same time, queues and traffic jams in front of the pumps are to be expected in any case,” says the ARBÖ president. “It is imperative that the mineral oil companies supply the filling stations with sufficient fuel in the coming week so that there are no bottlenecks and gasoline and diesel do not run out.”
The CO2 pricing starts in Austria at the beginning of October, which makes the expensive fuel even more expensive.
