Today, Saturday, a nationwide civil defense rehearsal alarm will be carried out again. Between 12:00 and 12:45 p.m., after the signal “siren rehearsal,” the three civil defense signals “warning,” “alarm” and “all-clear” will be sent out via 8,300 fire department sirens throughout Austria. The annual rehearsal of the signal tones serves to check the technical equipment of the warning and alarm system and is intended to familiarize the population with the signals.
During the test alarm, there will also be a test triggering of the Austrian disaster warning app KATWARN. During the test a year ago, 8,276 of 8,328 sirens had worked properly, or 99.38 percent, according to the Interior Ministry. The signals: “siren rehearsal” (15 seconds), “warning” (three minutes of constant continuous tone), “alarm” (one minute of rising and falling wailing tone), and “all-clear” (one minute of constant continuous tone).
