The Corona wave continues to rise. A sharp increase in hospital numbers was reported in Upper Austria from Sunday to Monday.
The hospital in Freistadt issues an urgent warning on Facebook. Doctors and nurses fight the consequences of the virus every day.
There has not been such a sharp increase in hospital numbers in Upper Austria for a long time. Within 24 hours on Monday, 53 new cases were recorded in the normal ward and two new possibilities in the intensive care unit. This means there are now 388 patients with Corona in a normal ward and 17 in the intensive care unit.
The number of new cases in Upper Austria increased by 1,683 within 24 hours. There are currently just under 25,000 active cases in Upper Austria.
Currently, 159 staff members and 220 residents have tested positive for Covid-19 in 65 Upper Austrian nursing homes and homes for the elderly.
There was also one new death in Upper Austria. An 81-year-old patient, a resident in the Eferding district with pre-existing conditions, died most recently in connection with Corona, according to the crisis team. In total, there are now already almost 3,000 deaths in Upper Austria.
Politicians now reacted to the sharply rising numbers. According to Green Club leader Maurer, the mask requirement is expected to return in the winter, but she did not give an exact date. “When exactly this time will depend on the GECKO and the forecasts,” Maurer told “Puls24.”
