1.3 million personalized reminders for a Corona booster vaccination have been sent out since this week to those for whom it is especially recommended, according to the Ministry of Health. According to the statement, those over 60 years of age whose primary immunization has already been completed and whose last vaccination was at least six months ago will receive such a mailing as part of the fall #GemeinsamGeimpft campaign.
The readiness for the booster vaccination in this age group is high, reported the ministry on Friday; because of the 2.4 million people, almost every fourth person has already received another vaccination dose, a total of about 625,000 people.
Booster vaccination recommended
Although five million people living in Austria have already completed the primary immunization – consisting of three doses – and have thus acquired essential protection against a severe corona disease. However, this decreases over time, which is why the National Vaccination Committee recommends a booster vaccination for all people over the age of twelve – especially if they are over 60 or belong to the “at-risk patient” group. So the latter also receives the personal reminder letter.
“Vaccination protects against severe corona disease, including death, and reduces the risk of contracting Long Covid. As a bonus, the booster prevents contagions for at least a few weeks. Especially given the current high infection figures, it is important that everyone completes the basic immunization and gets the booster,” Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) said. Last week, more than 110,000 Corona vaccinations were administered in Austria, according to the data.
