Certain links popping up on WhatsApp inviting to Milka sweepstakes are a particularly dangerous scam.
Year after year, supposed sweepstakes from the chocolate giant Milka pop up on WhatsApp, especially around holidays like Easter, Halloween, or Christmas. However, these links are anything but sweet; on the contrary, anyone who opens these lures in the form of messages is in for a bitter surprise.
As the online portal “Mimikama” warns, such scams are circulating again. The sweepstakes promise participants the chance to win “Free Halloween gift baskets from Milka” or a “Milka Halloween Candy Subsidy.”
The chocolate manufacturer Milka speaks up via Twitter and warns: “In various media, consumers are often pointed to false Milka sweepstakes! These are clickbait,” the company explains on its website. “Our Milka brand has no connection with these sweepstakes.”
What to look out for: in sweepstakes from Milka or Mondelez International – it is obligatory always to include associated conditions of participation, data protection provisions, and an imprint (!). “If the sender is not Mondelez, information is not clear or missing, we advise against the submission of personal data!”, so the tips of the chocolate manufacturer.
