Turn off the TV or unplug it after all? Should you always unplug your charger, or can it get stuck? We reveal the best way to save electricity with household appliances.
Whether it’s a heater, refrigerator, or washing machine, they all consume electricity and can be so bad for your wallet and the environment. But not all appliances should be unplugged.
Do not unplug televisions.
For example, some brands of TVs can be damaged if you unplug them. OLED TVs, for instance, run refresh programs to prevent the burn-in effect. The panel can be damaged over time if you open them all together.
Most electrical devices still draw power even when they are in standby mode. A red LED light can usually recognize this.
However, some devices draw electricity without this being apparent. These include the toaster and the contact grill. Both can be unplugged without hesitation. On the other hand, appliances such as the washing machine switch off entirely and no longer draw power.
And what about the charger? It will get warm over time if you leave it plugged in after charging. This is because it continues to draw power even when the cell phone is no longer set. The same applies to all chargers, so you should always unplug them to save electricity.
