The federal government has once again extended the application deadline for the energy cost bonus. But applicants only have until this date.
The energy cost subsidy is a federal government measure for energy-intensive companies to counteract the sharp rise in energy prices. A total of 1.3 billion euros is available for the subsidy period from February to September 2022. But: the deadline for the necessary applications has already expired. Minister of Economy Martin Kocher (ÖVP) is making amends with a new deadline.
“The application procedure for the energy cost subsidy includes mandatory pre-registration and application. Pre-registration was possible from November 7 to 28 and was carried out by about 87,000 companies,” said the department head, who sees the rush as confirmation of the measure’s effectiveness.
From 29 November to 15 February, the phase of the application runs now over the AWS promotion manager. However, to make it possible for as many affected companies as possible to receive the energy cost subsidy, a grace period is now being set for pre-registration. “Companies that have not pre-registered will have another opportunity to do so from January 16 to 20,” says Martin Kocher.
“The energy cost subsidy relieves companies that are particularly suffering from high energy costs and thus helps to secure jobs,” also emphasizes Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens). At the same time, the subsidy remains linked to specific energy-saving measures.
“For example, the installation of heating sponges outdoors contradicts the subsidy criteria. After all, when Vladimir Putin is blackmailing us with energy supplies, we are all called upon to contribute to saving energy,” states the Green Minister.
