The Settlement Regulation provides for a total of 5,951 quota places. In reality, however, there is more immigration. Most of the quota places – namely about 2,900 – are in Vienna.
On Wednesday, the Council of Ministers adopted the Settlement Regulation, which regulates immigration to Austria from non-EU countries. It provides for a total of 5,951 quota places. In the calendar year 2022, there were 6,020. However, immigration is higher because, for example, the Red-White-Red Card is not regulated by the ordinance.
Family reunification accounts for by far the largest share of more than five-sixths. Four hundred forty places are reserved for private citizens. The province with the most quota places is Vienna, with 2,865, followed by Upper Austria, with 795. More places are reserved for Styria (588) than Lower Austria (433). The lowest demand is in Burgenland with 76.
