Samsung Unveils Flex In & Out Flexible Display That Can be Folded Twice Into an “S” Shape
Samsung subsidiary Samsung Display has shown a new prototype of a foldable display at CES in Las Vegas. The “Flex In & Out” display folds in both directions – inward and outward.
The display features a new hinge design where the fold is not as noticeable.
The hinge is also called the “water drop hinge” because the display takes on a shape similar to a drop of water when folded inwards. This puts less mechanical stress on it, which is supposed to improve the longevity.
Use in Galaxy Z Fold5 possible
It is possible that the display will be used in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, according to The Verge. According to rumors, the device will feature a much less visible fold.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 features a “U” -a shaped hinge that creates a much more noticeable crease. A bump is an evidence, for example, according to the futurezone review of the device. Furthermore, a clear gap is exposed in the folded state – that does not exist in the water drop shape.
Samsung is expected to present the Z Fold5 in August together with the Z Flip5.
Much earlier, on February 1, the manufacturer will unveil its new top-of-the-line device, the Galaxy S23. Pictures showing the design of the device are already in circulation.
