Pleasant temperatures and sunshine in the east, rain and thunderstorms in the west – already in the past days, the weather in Austria played crazy. With the start of the Ice Saints, snowfall and minus degrees on the Turracher Höhe (Carinthia) make the weather chaos in Austria perfect. Similar temperatures were also measured in Wolfsberg.

The reason for the drop in temperature is an Italian low, which will get more and more influence over the weather in Austria in the coming days. Also, on the weekend, there is no improvement in sight. While rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected on Saturday in many regions, on Mother’s Day (Sunday), even local flooding threatens.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy, but there will be some sunshine in the northeast. Especially from Upper Austria and Salzburg to Carinthia and Styria, it will frequently rain, also in the west, showers will pass through. In the eastern lowlands, however, only a few drops will fall from time to time. In the Danube region, moderate, occasionally brisk easterly winds will blow. The highs will be only between 7 and 19 degrees.

On Friday, the calm and often wet weather continues, shifting the focus of rain to the east and north. In the more extensive valleys in the west, from the Rhine to the Inn Valley to the Lienz Basin, the sun will appear from time to time between only isolated showers, but in large parts of the country, it will remain cloudy. In the Danube region, moderate easterly winds will blow, and temperatures will not rise above 10 to 18 degrees.

Saturday will start in the east and south with rain in the Danube region and some valleys with high foggy residual clouds. On the mountains north of the main ridge of the Alps, the sun will shine frequently; during the day, a mix of spring clouds and some sun will set in. From noon, showers will fall along the northern Alps, with occasional thunder and lightning. It will gradually dry out in the eastern lowlands, but the clouds will clear only hesitantly. Highs will range between 12 and 20 degrees.

It will be mostly cloudy and wet in the south from the start of Sunday. This rain will quickly spread northward in the morning, and isolated showers will fall in the west. During the day, the rain will intensify in sections in the south and east. In addition, moderate to brisk easterly winds will blow in the Danube region and the eastern lowlands, and temperatures will not rise above 9 to 17 degrees.

Monday will be changeable in the north and west with many clouds and several showers, but there will be sunny spells in between. The east and south will be favorable, but here, too, showers and thunderstorms will develop after a friendly first half of the day over the mountains. The wind will shift from the west in the Danube region and blow moderately to briskly. Temperatures: 13 to 21 degrees, with the highest values in the southeast.
