On July 1, category rents will rise 5.51 percent. It is the fourth price increase in 14 months.
In July, the subsequent rent increase is due for around 135,000 households in Austria: The costs will rise by 5.51 percent for old apartments with category rents. According to the tenants’ association, this is the fourth price increase in 14 months, reports the “Ö1 Morgenjournal”. The reason continues to be high inflation.

Specifically affected are apartments built before 1945 and whose lease was concluded before March 1, 1994. Since the contracts are value-protected, the rent can be adjusted for inflation.
“Four increases in 14 months totaling almost 24 percent – this is no longer feasible for many,” criticizes the Chamber of Labor and once again calls for a rent brake. Rents should only be allowed to rise once a year by a maximum of two percent.
