The Music Unit with the Cultural Affairs Office of De La Salle Santiago Zobel (DLSZ) is delighted to announce that the DLSZ Strings received the outstanding rating in the 15th Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna, Austria, last July 1, 2023, at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein. Landing 4th place with outstanding success, they showcased their repertoire at the world’s capital of music in front of a jury of internationally renowned lecturers, artists, and music professionals.
The DLSZ Strings, the sole ensemble from the Philippines, is headed by the Strings conductor, Mr. Leopoldo Sumera Jr., and accompanied by Strings teacher, Ms. Shelly Isaga, Music Unit Head, Mr. Daryl Galicia, and the Cultural Affairs Office Head, Lynette Feliciano.
The group is a musical ensemble composed of selected High School students under the Special Music program designed to develop musical skills through musical concepts and training, thus further deepening one’s sensitivity and appreciation of music as an art. The group has participated in performances and competitions locally and internationally at the Chicago International Music Festival (2019, Gold Award) and Singapore Raffles International Music Festival (2019 and 2022, Gold Award), among others.
The DLSZ Strings arrived in Prague last June 26, 2023, as part of the performance tour for the festival, premiering at the beautiful Smetana Hall last June 28, 2023. The group will also be performing and competing in Bratislava Youth Music Festival as part of this extraordinary musical journey on the following schedules:

DLSZ Strings’ participation in this event is a testament to the Filipino’s remarkable talent, rich culture, and pride in musical excellence. Their competition program features the Holberg Suite, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Tryptch, and the traditional Filipino music, Tatlong Awiting Pilipino. Additional concert repertoire in their performance tour includes Symphony No.1, Sarabande, Jazz Pizzicato, and one of the most popular patriotic songs, Bayan ko.
