Over 100,000 Austrians’ e-cards will be blocked in January 2024 because they lack a photo! But there are exceptions.
The e-card in Austria has been changed for four years now, from an e-card without a photo to an e-card with a photo! However, the deadline is now, and e-cards without a photo will be blocked in mid-January 2024. But not for everyone, “Heute” reported.
Certain people, such as young people, the elderly, and people with a higher level of care, are allowed to keep their e-cards even without a photo. And the number of these people is in the millions. This was reported on Wednesday by Ö1-Frühjournal.
Around 2.4 million people in Austria currently have an e-card without a photo. And for 2.3 million of them, this may remain the case in the future, according to the ORF radio report.
“Everyone over the age of 70 can relax. And anyone in levels 4, 5, 6, or 7 is unaffected. Just like under 14-year-olds,” explains Peter Lehner, Co-Chairman of the Social Insurance on Ö1-Frühjournal.
So, none of these people need a photo on their e-card. However, around 90,000 people in Austria still need a photo, but the social insurance agency has been unable to find one.
Those people must now submit a photo; otherwise, their e-card will be blocked on January 15, 2024. But even with a blocked e-card, you can still go to the doctor, according to Ö1.
However, the doctor should issue a printed prescription, as a blocked e-card will no longer work in a pharmacy.
