From July 15th to July 18th, 2026, Vienna’s vibrant art scene will find a fresh, deeply moving pulse at the Galerie am Park. In collaboration with the renowned local art association Verein Kunstschaffen, the exhibition “Sags durch die Blume” (Say It with Flowers) invites the public to explore the manifold ways flowers act as messengers of the human soul.
Among the diverse works on display, one distinct visual philosophy stands out: the poignant, organic world of Flowerembryoart, created by Vienna-based Filipino artist and healthcare professional Lisa Pangan (also known as Lisa Ante Pangan).
The Intersection of Science, Soul, and Soil
Lisa Pangan’s journey to the canvas is as unconventional as it is profound. Balancing her life as a visual artist with her role as a lead nurse at a fertility (IVF) institute in Vienna, Pangan bridges the precision of reproductive science with the boundless empathy of fine art. Over fifteen years in healthcare have given her a rare, intimate perspective on the delicate thresholds of human existence—themes that she translates directly onto her canvases.
Her signature concept, Flowerembryoart, is a breathtaking tribute to the very beginnings of life.
“An embryo represents life and energy,” Pangan notes, reflecting on her work. “Even when a journey is cut short, that life existed and left a trace.”
Through a delicate fusion of floral motifs and embryonic silhouettes, Pangan’s art serves as a therapeutic touchstone. It pays tribute to the silent, often painful journeys of IVF couples, offering a visual space of healing, gratitude, and remembrance.
Earthy Mediums and Global Roots
Pangan’s art is also defined by her striking, tactile choice of medium. Alongside vibrant gouache and acrylics, she frequently utilizes coffee as a paint medium. The warm, sepia-toned washes of coffee bring a grounded, raw, and vintage quality to her work—perfectly capturing the nostalgia of her cultural roots.
As a member of the Filipino diaspora in Austria, Pangan’s art is a continuous dialogue between her life in Vienna and her family roots in the province of Albay, Bicol, in the Philippines. Her work explores the complex, beautiful experience of navigating dual cultural identities, transforming the canvas into a bridge between the alpine heart of Europe and the tropical, volcanic landscapes of her homeland.
Whether portraying the gentle daily rhythms of Filipino life or the abstract beginnings of human cell division, her work carries an unmistakable warmth and an invitation to connect.
