There are still a good two months to go until Apple presents the new iPhone 16. There will be four variants again, but this year the iPhone 16 Pro will likely be a particular focus for customers. Apple is making sure of this with an overdue feature addition.
iPhone 16 Pro: Report confirms tetra prism camera again
It’s not the first time we’ve heard about it. A few weeks before Apple lets the cat out of the bag, the Taiwanese industry magazine DigiTimes is now also reporting on Apple’s new upgrade for the iPhone 16 Pro. It is now finally getting the tetraprism periscope camera with 5x optical zoom (source: DigiTimes via MacRumors). Until now, this was reserved for the more expensive Pro Max model of the iPhone 15. With the iPhone 16, however, the iPhone 16 Pro and the Pro Max will receive powerful optics.
Until now, this level of zoom has only been available on the iPhone 15 Pro Max:
Until now, the iPhone 15 Pro had to make do with a 3x optical zoom. The upgrade of its immediate successor should please potential customers. This will also go hand in hand with the hope that the current price difference of 250 euros between the Pro and Pro Max models will be reduced again. So anyone who needs a larger display will hopefully have to pay less than before.
As usual, DigiTimes obtains the latest information on the iPhone 16 from trustworthy sources within Apple’s supply chain. They are therefore considered trustworthy and sufficiently credible.
Another plus: Larger screens only for Pro buyers
But it’s not just the new, more powerful camera that speaks in favor of the Pro model this year. Together with the Pro Max, both Pro models will have a larger display. Instead of 6.1 inches, the screen on the iPhone 16 Pro will grow to 6.3 inches, and from 6.7 to 6.9 inches on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Another significant upgrade for the Pro series.
The regular iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, on the other hand, will probably have to make do with the familiar displays. This also means that the hope that Apple will finally bring Pro Motion technology (dynamic refresh rate of up to 120 Hz) and the Always-on Display to the standard models is fading.
Apple is making sure that those who opt for the iPhone 16 Pro in 2024 will not regret their decision. Those who want more for their money will probably have to go for this model in the fall.
