The new corona wave is hitting hard and the numbers are skyrocketing. The health insurance fund is now giving tips on how to arm yourself against infection.
The trade union federation recently appealed to people to protect others from infection. Covid is no longer notifiable, but: “Nevertheless, it would be grossly unreasonable to go to work after testing positive,” emphasized Peter Leinfellner from the ÖGB.
Vienna was once again the negative frontrunner (3,696). It was followed by Upper Austria (2,072), Styria (1,838) and Lower Austria (1,809).
The number of flu-like infections rose by a good 20 percent to 76,156 nationwide, while cases of influenza (real flu) increased by a quarter to 444.
The health insurance fund strongly recommends paying close attention: “Flu viruses are transmitted by droplet infection, especially through coughing and sneezing,” explains head physician Andreas Krauter. The risk is particularly high when universities resume operations, schools are in full swing and more people are using public transport.
“The most important measure for preventing real flu is the influenza vaccination,” says the expert. Immunization can help and is particularly advisable for certain risk groups. For the first time, it is being offered free of charge to everyone living in Austria.
