Fee increase: Parking fee in Vienna

Shortly before the turn of the year, ÖAMTC reminds in a press release: As of 1 January 2025, the city of Vienna will raise the short-term parking fees again—half an hour will cost 1.30 euros (previously 1.25 euros); a full hour will then cost 2.60 euros (previously 2.50 euros). The fee will remain unchanged for Viennese with a parking permit for their district until further notice.

Old parking tickets must be used by 30 June
Parking tickets at the “old” rate (until the end of 2024) may still be used until June 30, 2025. The City of Vienna still does not offer the option of exchanging them—even for an additional charge at the new rate. Therefore, ÖAMTC traffic expert Matthias Nagler reiterates his criticism of this approach: “Parking tickets that are not used by the end of June 2025 are practically worthless after that. The fact that the City of Vienna categorically refuses to exchange them—especially in view of three fee increases in just five years—is extremely annoying from the ÖAMTC’s point of view and remains a grievance.”

The mobility club is therefore renewing its call for a genuine exchange option for unused parking tickets: “After all, a fee was paid in advance without any service being provided by the municipality of Vienna. It would only be fair if consumers could pay the remaining amount to the new tariff at the city treasury and receive a valid parking ticket instead of losing the entire old amount,” says the ÖAMTC expert.

Everything you need to know about short-stay parking throughout Austria
The free ÖAMTC app helps with orientation and provides transparency on where short-term parking zones apply, how much the specific fees are, and how to pay (www.oeamtc.at/app). The “Book parking ticket” function also makes things easier for users. Here, you can go to the payment process to pay the displayed parking fee electronically.
