Despite the planned abolition of the climate bonus, many Austrians can still benefit from a final payment of up to 290 euros. Find out who is eligible and how you can still receive the bonus.
Savings package from Blau-Schwarz
According to the current austerity plans of the FPÖ and ÖVP, the climate bonus will be a thing of the past as early as this year. The measure, which is still in coalition negotiations and has not yet been decided, is expected to save around two billion euros in the budget by the end of 2025.
Second wave of climate bonus payments in February 2025
However, there is still an important wave of payments to come this year. People who did not meet the requirements by the 2 July 2024 deadline will receive their payment in February 2025. This mainly affects people who have moved house, new arrivals, and newborns.
The payment for adults is between 145 and 290 euros. Children receive half. The exact amount depends on the place of residence.
Subsequent payment possible
Particularly important: tens of thousands of people have not yet collected their climate bonus letters. In total, up to 20 million euros are waiting for their rightful recipients. Retrospective payment is possible for up to three years. Those affected can register at klimabonus.gv.at to have the money transferred to their account.
