Vienna, Austria— The Philippine Embassy in Vienna has opened its doors to celebrate contemporary Filipino artistry with the exhibition Tara Let’s!, a visual arts showcase by Filipino artists. Hosted by the Sige! Artists Group and Bastedor Art Project, the exhibition runs from 31 March to 8 April 2025, highlighting the diverse and vibrant artistic expressions from the Philippines across Europe.
During the vernissage, Philippine Ambassador to Austria Evangelina Lourdes Arroyo-Bernas expressed her strong support for Filipino artists, emphasizing the embassy’s commitment to promoting Philippine art beyond Vienna. “The Philippine Embassy is always happy to support the activities of Filipino artists. We are ready to collaborate with their programs to showcase Filipino art not just in Vienna but across Europe,” she stated.
Among the exhibitors is Philippine Ambassador to France, Junever Mahilum-West, who actively supports the initiative. She highlighted the significance of showcasing Philippine visual art: “Through this, our painters are gaining recognition and appreciation worldwide.” She extended her gratitude to the Philippine Embassy in Vienna and the local Filipino community for their warm reception and support of the artists.
Norlie Meimban, founder of the Bastedor Art Project and the key figure behind bringing the artists together, shared his vision for the exhibition. “Our main objective in bringing art exhibitions to Vienna and other parts of Europe is to promote young Filipino artists based in Manila and abroad. My advocacy is to give these emerging talents a platform to showcase their work internationally,” he said. Meimban also emphasized that Vienna, with its rich art culture, serves as an ideal base for Filipino artists to gain exposure and expand their reach to neighboring countries.
Vienna-based Filipino artist Harold Khan was honored to be part of this project. With Meimban, he presented Certificates of Appreciation to all participating artists to recognize their contributions to the exhibition. As a gesture of gratitude, Ambassador Arroyo-Bernas received paintings from the artists, symbolizing their appreciation for the embassy’s support.
The Tara Let’s! exhibition stands as a testament to the thriving Filipino art scene. It provides a space for artists to connect with an international audience and showcases the talent of Filipino artists while reinforcing the Philippines’ cultural presence in Europe.
