Nighttime is probably the best time to save electricity actively. That’s when you’re least likely to notice that your electrical appliances are not in use. However, it’s also imperative to note that there are power guzzlers in your household for which this method is highly recommended.
Power guzzlers in the household: keep an eye on three devices
Just because you’re asleep doesn’t mean your electrical appliances are too. On the contrary, standby mode, unused plugs and the like ensure that energy continues to flow at night. You’re sure to find the following power guzzlers in your home too.

#1 Charging cables
Whether it’s your cell phone, laptop, or controller, you’re likely to find a few devices whose charging cables are plugged into the wall but not in use. If you charged your devices before going to bed and then simply unplugged them, you’re still consuming electricity without realizing it. What helps, for example, are power strips with an off switch or simply unplugging the device.
#2 Television
Your TV can become a power guzzler at night in two ways. If you often fall asleep in front of it but don’t use the built-in timer function to turn it off automatically, you’re wasting a lot of energy unnecessarily while you sleep. On the other hand, televisions are among those devices that consume a lot of power even in standby mode. Here, too, it’s worth unplugging the device completely.
#3 Wi-Fi router
If there’s one electrical device that runs 24 hours a day, it’s your Wi-Fi router. It may be worth switching off your FritzBox and other similar devices at night. If you don’t have any critical secondary devices connected, you can save a few euros per year this way. However, you should be careful if smart home assistants or answering machines are linked to it. Frequent deactivation can cause problems.
