Those who use public transport will have to dig deeper into their pockets from January 2026. The prices for VOR-KlimaTickets MetropolRegion will be adjusted.

As a result of inflation, price increases are commonplace in Austria. The prices for the VOR-KlimaTicket were recently adjusted. How much does a VOR KlimaTicket cost?

The annual price for the full-price option with a one-time payment will increase from €898 to €1,000 next year. Seniors will also have to dig deeper into their pockets in the future: the price will rise to €700. However, some will be happy to hear that the VOR KlimaTicket MetropolRegion Youth and Special will become cheaper. Instead of €765 for a one-time payment, the price will be €700 in the future. The monthly debit amount will also be noticeably lower: it will be reduced from €806 to €725.

Passengers aged 18 and over affected: additional fees increase

Another change is the additional fees for passengers aged 18 and over who travel without a valid ticket. The measures are intended to help maintain and further expand public transport in the eastern region, according to a press release from Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR) GmbH.

Increase affects Vienna’s core zone

The price adjustment was prompted by the first-ever increase in annual ticket prices in Vienna. The increase only affects the Vienna core zone. Prices for VOR KlimaTickets Region, valid in Lower Austria and Burgenland, will remain unchanged for the time being.

VOR KlimaTicket MetropolRegion 2026 – Prices & changes

Full price:

Annual lump sum payment: €1,000 (2025: €898)

Monthly direct debit: €1,049.40 (2025: €939)

Seniors:

Annual lump sum payment: €700 (2025: €635)

Monthly direct debit: €725 (2025: €656)

Youth / Special:

Annual lump sum payment: €700 (2025: €765)

Monthly direct debit: €725 (2025: €806)

Additional fees for traveling without a valid ticket (aged 18 and over, from January 1, 2026):

Immediate payment: €135 (previously €105)

Payment within two weeks: €145 (previously €115)

Payment after reminder: €185 (previously €145)

For passengers under 18 years of age:

Immediate payment: €55

Payment within 2 weeks: €60

Payment after reminder: €80

Processing fees:

Submitting tickets or installment payments: €10 each

Secure tickets for public transport

“It is necessary to safeguard the value of ticket sales revenue in order to be able to continue expanding public transport and also to take into account the rising costs of the transport companies involved,” the press release states. It says that the majority of the costs incurred for public transport in the eastern region will continue to be borne by the public sector.
