According to the ARBÖ information service, the coming weekend will be marked by several traffic-intensive events in both Vienna and Tyrol.
Extensive construction work is planned on the Southeast Tangent (A23), which is likely to cause significant delays. At the same time, two concerts at the Wiener Stadthalle, which are expected to be sold out, and the opening of numerous Christmas markets will attract tens of thousands of visitors. In Innsbruck, the “SENaktiv” trade fair will cause heavy traffic on the access roads around the exhibition grounds.
On the Southeast Tangent (A23), lanes will be closed in sections between the Prater junction and the Kaisermühlen junction from Friday, November 14, 2025, at 10:00 p.m. until Monday morning, November 17, 2025, at 5:00 a.m. During the day (9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.), only two lanes will be available in the direction of Hirschstetten, while at night (10:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.), only one lane will be open to traffic. Traffic jams are expected on the Southeast Tangent as early as Friday evening, especially on access roads such as the Danube Bank Motorway (A22), the Northern Edge Expressway (S2), and in the area of the Reichsbrücke and around the Prater junction. The ARBÖ recommends taking alternative routes as far as possible – locally, for example, via Brünner Straße – Nordbrücke – Gürtel or Spittelauer Lände, Floridsdorfer Straße, Brigittenauer Brücke – Adalbert-Stifter-Straße or Wagramer Straße – Reichsbrücke – Lassallestraße – Praterstern.
“Big Time Rush” and “Jamiroquai” fill the Wiener Stadthalle
This coming weekend, the Wiener Stadthalle will be dominated by international music stars. On Friday, November 14, the US band Big Time Rush, known from the Nickelodeon series of the same name and hits such as “Boyfriend,” “Superstar,” and “Til I Forget About You,” will be performing. One day later, on Saturday, November 15, British cult band Jamiroquai, fronted by Jay Kay and known for songs such as “Virtual Insanity,” “Cosmic Girl,” and “Canned Heat,” will take the stage. Up to 14,000 visitors are expected on both evenings.
The heaviest traffic is expected before the concert begins (Friday at around 8:00 p.m., Saturday at around 7:30 p.m.) and after the event ends. As is often the case, the Neubaugürtel, Hütteldorfer Straße, the streets in the Nibelungenviertel and Burggasse will be particularly affected. As the short-term parking zone is active at weekends, ARBÖ recommends travelling by public transport. Visitors should use the U3 (Schweglerstraße), U6 (Burggasse-Stadthalle) and trams 6, 9, 18 and 49. For motorists, the Stadthallengarage, Lugner City-Garage and Märzparkgarage offer alternative parking options.
Christmas markets open in Vienna
Seven large Christmas markets will open in Vienna this coming weekend. Experience has shown that those at Rathausplatz, the Old General Hospital, Belvedere Palace, Freyung, and the Spittelberg district are particularly popular and therefore very busy. The ARBÖ expects large crowds, traffic jams in the surrounding area, and quickly filling parking lots, especially on Friday evening and Saturday. It is therefore recommended to travel by public transport or taxi. Adults may enjoy a hot drink or two, including alcoholic beverages, but those who are driving should refrain from drinking alcohol.
SENaktiv trade fair in Innsbruck – senior citizens’ fair with high traffic volume
The SENaktiv trade fair will take place at the Innsbruck Exhibition Center in Tyrol this coming weekend. It is considered the most prominent senior citizens’ fair in western Austria and is dedicated to the topics of health, exercise, leisure, travel, and living in old age. Around 10,000 visitors and more than 130 exhibitors are expected. The worst traffic jams are expected before the fair opens and after it closes – i.e. around 10:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. – on Ing.-Etzel-Straße and the adjacent access roads.
“Anyone traveling in Vienna this coming weekend should avoid the southeast tangent between the Prater and Kaisermühlen junctions if possible, or take a wide detour. For events at the Stadthalle, it is advisable to travel by subway or tram, and in Innsbruck by the IVB lines. Up-to-date information on traffic jams, road closures, and construction sites is available from the ARBÖ traffic service and ORF teletext on page 431,” according to the ARBÖ information service.
