A Historic Jackpot Moment
The midweek drawing once again produced no six‑number winner, pushing the pot into uncharted territory. On Sunday, around 12 million euros are expected to be up for grabs — a figure that sounds enormous, but still falls short of Austria’s all‑time high.
Players submitted 6.7 million tips for the ninth-ever seven‑fold jackpot, but the winning combination — 4, 14, 27, 32, 38, 45 — didn’t appear on any ticket.
Why the Record Payout Happened Years Ago
The biggest win in Austrian lottery history dates back to 21 November 2018, when a Lower Austrian player walked away with nearly 15 million euros. That jackpot was “only” a seven‑fold rollover — yet it produced a higher payout than the upcoming eight‑fold one.
Günter Engelhart of the Österreichischen Lotterien explains the discrepancy:
“That first seven‑fold jackpot went through the roof. It exceeded all expectations. And the framework conditions were different back then.”
Two structural changes explain the gap:
- No bonus draws in 2018: At the time, 6 aus 45 had only two draws per week. Today, every second week includes a Friday bonus draw, increasing the number of weekly rounds.
- Shorter jackpot cycles today: Previously, reaching an eight‑fold jackpot required four weeks (Sunday–Wednesday rhythm). Now, thanks to bonus draws, it takes three weeks. Shorter cycles mean fewer tips per round, which directly reduces the amount that accumulates in the jackpot.
These mechanics make today’s record jackpot structurally smaller than the 2018 payout — even if the rollover count is higher.
Holiday Season and Digital Play
The current jackpot coincides with summer holidays, which traditionally reduce the number of submitted tips. Still, digital platforms and the official app allow players to submit entries from anywhere — even the beach.
Lower Austria remains the country’s luckiest region, home to the most six‑number winners and the highest number of lottery millionaires. But even there, winners often share the pot: multiple correct entries mean the jackpot is divided.
Numbers That Love to Appear
According to lottery statistics, the most frequently drawn numbers in 6 aus 45 are:
- 3
- 5
- 17
- 27
- 42
- 43
Perhaps this combination will deliver someone’s dream win on Sunday — though superstition and statistics rarely agree.
The Real Story Behind the Non‑Record Record
The eight‑fold jackpot is historic because of its rarity, not its size. Structural changes in draw frequency and player behavior mean that jackpot count no longer directly predicts jackpot payout.
In other words: More rollovers don’t automatically mean more millions.
Still, Sunday’s drawing promises excitement — and for one lucky player, possibly life‑changing news.
