VOR fare increase: Annual passes and KlimaTickets in Lower Austria and Burgenland will become more expensive from September 1, with prices rising by an average of 3.5 percent.
Commuters and frequent public transport users in eastern Austria will face higher costs this autumn as the Transport Association Eastern Region (VOR) introduces a new round of fare increases. Effective September 1, 2026, prices for annual passes and KlimaTickets in Lower Austria and Burgenland will rise by an average of 3.5 percent.
The increase will be particularly noticeable for passengers who rely on public transport on a daily basis. The VOR KlimaTicket MetropolRegion, which covers travel across Vienna, Lower Austria, and Burgenland, will cost €1,019 under the standard annual payment option, up from the current €1,000.
Discounted fares are also increasing. For seniors, young people, and passengers eligible for special tariffs, the annual ticket price will rise from €765 to €784.
Travelers who mainly use public transport within Lower Austria and Burgenland will also see higher costs. The VOR KlimaTicket Region will increase to €552 from €533, while the reduced-rate version for seniors, youths, and people with disabilities will rise from €400 to €414.
In addition to KlimaTickets, VOR announced that individual route-based annual passes will also become more expensive, with prices increasing by an average of 3.5 percent.
Higher Costs for Students and Families
Families with schoolchildren and apprentices will be among those most affected by the changes. Following a federal government decision to increase the statutory co-payment for student travel passes by €10 nationwide, the standard VOR Youth Ticket will jump from €19.60 to €29.60.
As a consequence of both the higher co-payment and the general fare adjustment, the popular Top Youth Ticket will also become more expensive. From the 2026/27 school year, unlimited travel across the entire VOR network, including weekends and school holidays, will cost €101, compared with the current €88.60.
Regional Fares Already Increased in July
The September adjustments follow fare increases that were already implemented in the regional network on July 1, 2026.
In the lowest fare category for Lower Austria and Burgenland, the price of a single journey ticket increased from €2.20 to €2.30, while a day ticket rose from €4.30 to €4.50.
Several popular regional routes have also become more expensive. A one-way trip from the Vienna city boundary to St. Pölten Central Station now costs €14.50, up from €14.00. Meanwhile, travel between Mattersburg and Wiener Neustadt has increased from €5.70 to €5.90.
Vienna Core Zone Remains Unchanged
Passengers traveling exclusively within Vienna can expect no further increases for the time being. Ticket prices in the Vienna core zone remain unchanged, as they were already adjusted on January 1, 2026.
VOR also confirmed that several leisure-oriented offers remain exempt from the current fare adjustments. These include the Leisure Ticket, Leisure Ticket Plus, Weekend Ticket, and Weekend Ticket Plus.
The latest fare hike reflects rising operating costs across the public transport sector, but it is likely to place additional financial pressure on commuters, students, and families who depend on public transport throughout the region.
