Filipino-Austrian singer Michael Florendo joins former Vienna Boys’ Choir members for a special pop music performance on November 25.
Vienna is set to experience an exciting evening of vocal music as VieVox, an ensemble of former members of the renowned Vienna Boys’ Choir, takes the stage at the international a cappella festival VOICE MANIA with its programme entitled “The Sound of Pop.”
The performance will take place on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at Theater am Spittelberg, Spittelberggasse 10, in Vienna’s 7th district.
Among the members of VieVox is Filipino-Austrian singer Michael Florendo, whose participation brings a Filipino connection to this musical gathering. As part of an ensemble whose singers share a background in one of Austria’s most celebrated musical institutions, Florendo joins his fellow vocalists in presenting a programme that celebrates the versatility and expressive power of the human voice.
With “The Sound of Pop,” VieVox explores popular music through the distinctive sound of a cappella singing. Without relying on conventional musical instruments, the singers use their voices to create harmonies, rhythms and musical arrangements that bring familiar pop sounds to life.
The ensemble’s background in classical choral singing, combined with the energy and diversity of contemporary popular music, promises an entertaining musical experience for audiences of different generations.
VOICE MANIA: Celebrating the Power of the Human Voice
The VieVox performance is part of VOICE MANIA – Internationales A-cappella-Festival Wien, one of Vienna’s established international celebrations of vocal music. Running from November 6 to December 6, 2026, the festival presents the extraordinary possibilities of the human voice across different musical genres.
Now celebrating its 28th edition, VOICE MANIA brings together more than 38 vocal ensembles and solo performers from 21 countries. Its programme spans pop, rock, jazz, swing, world music, comedy, beatboxing and entertainment, showcasing how the human voice can become a complete musical instrument.
The festival goes beyond traditional a cappella performances. Audiences can discover innovative vocal arrangements, impressive beatboxing, vocal percussion, musical comedy and even performances combining singing with physical artistry. Special workshops and programmes for children also introduce younger generations to the creative possibilities of vocal music.
One of the festival’s distinctive features is BALCANTO, its open-air opening event, where singers perform from balconies and historic buildings in Vienna’s city centre, transforming familiar streets into unusual musical stages.
Since its beginnings in 1998, VOICE MANIA has developed into an international platform for vocal artists, celebrating musical creativity without the need for conventional instruments. Under the festival’s artistic direction, the event continues to demonstrate that the human voice alone can create an entire musical universe.
For the Filipino community in Austria, the participation of Michael Florendo in VieVox is another opportunity to celebrate Filipino talent on an international cultural stage.
