The fourth wave is picking up speed much earlier than the second wave last fall. This is also shown by a look at the statistics. Whereas exactly one year ago 272 new infections were reported within 24 hours, 1,229 new Corona infections were registered in Austria from Monday to Tuesday. This is below the average of the past seven days (1,386).
While 10,782 deaths related to Covid 19 infection were reported yesterday, 10,772 deaths appear in today’s statistics. This is likely the result of a data cleanup. The number of active cases increases by 98 to 15,203. The seven-day incidence is 108.98.
The rising numbers are also making themselves felt in the hospitals: 510 people are currently in Austria’s hospitals in connection with a covid illness, which is 57 more than the previous day. 130 patients are in intensive care – eight more than the day before.
In the past 24 hours, 122,109 PCR tests have been performed, with a positive rate of 1.01 percent.
Vaccination readiness in the population continues to decline. Only 7,965 vaccinations were given Monday. A total of 5,495,287 people have already received at least a partial vaccination, according to the E-vaccine passport data: That’s 61.5 percent of the population. Exactly 5,196,075, or 58.2 percent of Austrians, are already fully immunized.
