In Austria, 1,390 new Corona infections were reported within 24 hours on Tuesday morning. This figure is below the seven-day average of 1,827 cases. In addition, 14 people died from or as a result of Covid-19. Hospital occupancy has increased since yesterday, Monday.
According to data from the Ministry of Interior and Health, 880 people currently require care in Austria’s hospitals, up 51 from Monday. 218 people currently require intensive care treatment, up by eight from yesterday.
The seven-day incidence for all of Austria (the number of new infections within a week) rose slightly to 143.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, up from 142 on Monday. The province with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Upper Austria with 198.2, followed by Salzburg, Styria and Vienna (187.4, 148.5 and 141, respectively). Carinthia (131.1), Lower Austria (129.3), Tyrol (98.3), Burgenland (97) and Vorarlberg (64.4) follow.
In absolute numbers, most new cases in the past 24 hours were detected in Upper Austria (397), followed by Lower Austria (265). In the federal capital Vienna there were 207 new cases, in Styria 133 and in Salzburg 131. In Tyrol there were 109 new infections, in Carinthia 73, in Burgenland 49 and in Vorarlberg 26.
Since the start of the Corona pandemic in February 2020, 763,928 confirmed cases have been documented in Austria. Since then, 733,437 people have recovered and 11,120 have died. Currently, 19,371 Austrians are suffering from a Corona infection.
According to the data of the E-vaccination passport, a total of 5,790,455 people have already received at least one partial vaccination. That is 64.8 percent of the population. Of these, 5,483,648 people (equivalent to 61.4 percent of Austrians) are fully immunized. Yesterday, Monday, 6,378 Corona vaccinations were administered, with slightly more than half (3,920 vaccinations) being the second sting. Two vaccinations are required to provide full protection, with the exception of the active ingredient from the manufacturer Johnson & Johnson.
Among 12- to 24-year-olds, 50 percent are now fully immunized; in the 25- to 34-year-old age group, the full immunization rate is 59.5 percent; and among 35- to 44-year-olds, the full immunization rate is 65.1 percent. 69.6 percent of people ages 45 to 54 are fully protected against Covid-19, and 78.3 percent in the 55 to 64 group. Those ages 65 to 74 have a full immunization rate of 83.5 percent, those ages 75 to 84 have 88.4 percent and the 85-plus group has 88.5 percent.
The highest vaccination coverage rate (fully immunized) is in Burgenland, at 68.9 percent. In Lower Austria, 64.2 percent of the population is vaccinated, and in Styria, 62.1 percent. After Vienna (60.5), Vorarlberg (60.3), Tyrol (59.6), Carinthia (58) and Salzburg (57.7), Upper Austria brings up the rear with a vaccination coverage rate of 56.5 percent.
