Austria’s borders are open, tourist travel is possible. Here is an overview of the current entry regulations.

(Last update: 16. 11. 2021) Tourist travel to Austria is possible! We are happy to welcome you again. From most European and some other countries entry is possible without quarantine under the 3-G rule.

3-G at entry, 2-G during your stay
Please keep in mind that during your stay stricter rules are applied than for your entry. In Austria, 2-G (“vaccinated, recovered”) currently applies in many areas. Access to accommodation, gastronomy or cable cars is only possible with a 2-G certificate. In addition, the vaccination validity will be reduced as of December 6 in connection with the 2-G proof.

These are the currently valid entry rules
Entry from countries with sufficiently low incidence is possible without quarantine. This applies to most European and some other countries. Prerequisite is that you have stayed exclusively in these countries or Austria in the last 10 days.

Furthermore, you need either a negative Covid test, a valid vaccination or proof of recovery (“3-G rule”). In concrete terms, this means that in the event of an inspection, you must present a medical certificate, a test result, a vaccination certificate/vaccination passport or an official/medical recovery certificate in German or English. If you do not have one of these documents with you when you enter Austria, you will have to take a PCR or antigen test in Austria within 24 hours.

This applies within the framework of the “3-G rule
For entry without quarantine you need a proof of testing, vaccination or recovery in German or English language. The best way is to use the digital Covid certificate of the EU (green passport). However, the 3-G proof can also be provided with other recognized documents (vaccination certificate, vaccination passport, etc.). International guests whose proofs are not available in German or English, please use the official forms for the medical certificate.

“Tested”.
You will need a PCR test no older than 72 hours or an antigen test no older than 48 hours. Children 12 years of age and older also need a test. The test must be confirmed by an authorized body (such as pharmacy, test lane). Caution. Self-tests (not older than 24 hours) are only valid if they are digitally recorded on one of the self-test platforms of the Austrian provinces. Self-tests from private providers and from other states are not valid for the purpose of entry.

“Fully Vaccinated”
Vaccination is valid for 360 days from the date of the second vaccination or from any further vaccination. Initial vaccination with a vaccine that provides two doses is not sufficient. Exception: for convalescents who have been vaccinated once, the vaccination is valid for 360 days from the date of vaccination. For vaccines that require only one vaccination, it is valid for 270 days from day 22 from vaccination. For a third vaccination, the interval from the second vaccination must be at least 120 days.

“Recovery.”
Survived infection with Sars-Cov-2 is valid for entry for 180 days from recovery. Evidence of neutralizing antibodies counts for 90 days from the date of testing.

When you need the Pre-Travel Clearance
In principle, there is a registration obligation before entering Austria (“Pre-Travel Clearance”). The registration obligation does not apply to entry from countries with a low epidemiological risk (see “List of countries with entry without quarantine”). However, this only applies if you enter tested, vaccinated or recovered (proof required). If you want to get your test after your entry, you still have to register in advance. When entering from other countries (not on the safe countries list), registration is waived for fully vaccinated and recovered individuals. This exception does not apply when entering from countries with high epidemiological risk. Confirmation of registration must be presented electronically or in hard copy at the time of inspection.

Exceptions exist for unforeseeable, postponable reasons worthy of special consideration in the family circle, transit passengers and individual other cases.
