The lockdown for unvaccinated goes from Sunday for ten days in the extension, each new extension by ten days is extended in each case by the federal government.

The non-essential trade partly opens already on Sunday, vaccinated or recovered customers must wear FFP2 mask. Trade employees are subject to 3G verification and the mask requirement, unless there are, for example, structural protective measures.

Access to body-related service providers, who are also allowed to reopen, is restricted to those with a valid 2G certificate; in addition, the FFP2 mask requirement also applies here, and the rules for employees are the same as those for non-essential trade.

Events are also allowed to take place from December 12, but with strict restrictions and a distinction as to whether they are held indoors or outdoors. Indoors without assigned seating, a maximum of 25 guests with 2G and FFP2 masks may attend; with assigned seating, 2,000 people are allowed, 2G rules and FFP2 obligation remain in place. Outdoor without assigned seats a maximum of 300 people are allowed, there is no FFP2 mask obligation but a stricter 2G+ rule – participants must be vaccinated or recovered and also show a maximum 48 hours old, negative PCR test. For assigned seating, the possible number of participants increases to 4,000, with the rest remaining the same.

Gyms can also open Dec. 12, 2021, gym-goers need 2G proof to enter, “when entering as well as on the way to/from wet rooms, equipment or similar” an FFP2 mask must be worn and a 2-meter distance from other persons must be maintained. Indoor sports facilities also need 2G proof and the 2-meter distance, FFP2 mask only does not need to be worn when exercising itself. However, only sports without physical contact are allowed.

The catering trade and hotel trade in Vienna remain still closed up to 19 December. In the Gastro there is until then further Take-away for customers, a consumption within a minimum distance of 50 meters to the restaurant is forbidden however. In the hotel industry, exceptions will continue to be made, for example for business trips that cannot be postponed or for urgent residential needs. In these cases, a 3G certificate is sufficient for the overnight guests.

Entering elementary educational institutions is only possible with a valid 3G certificate, according to the City of Vienna. Rapid antigen tests from an authorized body are valid for 24 hours, PCR tests for 48 hours. “When picking up and dropping off school children, FFP2 masks are mandatory,” it also says for parents and guardians. Vaccinated or recovering education staff must have mandatory PCR testing once a week, and staff without 2G detection three times a week. Educational staff and parents are also required to wear FFP2 masks, except when caring for children before compulsory school attendance. Mouth-to-nose protection is required for children in after-school and family groups.

Nothing changes in the federal government’s rules for 3G in the workplace, which continue to apply in Vienna. Employees must be vaccinated, recovered or tested; in the case of testing, rapid antigen tests by an authorized body apply for 24 hours, PCR tests for 48 hours. In addition, FFP2 is generally mandatory in the workplace unless other protective measures are in place.

Pure sales stands open with Sunday, December 12, catering stands may open for take-away, but remain restricted in this respect until December 19. Consumption is not allowed within a minimum distance of 50 meters from the market.

Spas and baths may open on December 12, visitors need 2G proof. FFP2 mask must be worn “when entering and on the way to/from wet rooms, pools, checkrooms or similar”.
