2G rule and mask obligation: “Wiener Eistraum” starts on 19 January

Next week on Thursday (January 19), the Wiener Eistraum will start – with more ice skating space than ever before.

This year’s Ice Dream will once again consist of the large areas on Rathausplatz in front of City Hall, the “Sky Rink” – a kind of ice-skating terrace complete with a new platform – and the Dream Trail in City Hall Park. The two free children’s and practice areas are also making a comeback.

For those who want to ice skate, the 2G rule and mask obligation applies to the entire site, except on the ice itself when practicing sports, as the organizer announced in a release on Tuesday. The data for contract tracing will be collected via a central registration system.

Tickets can now be purchased not only on site at the ticket counters and machines, but also via the newly designed webshop http://www.wienereistraum.com. Those who buy online will receive a ten percent discount. With the QR code ticket on their smartphone, visitors can then check in directly at the turnstiles in front of the ice rink without contact. The new ticket is valid for four hours after entering the ice rink. To avoid queues this year, the deposit system on conventional tickets has also been abolished.

The goal of the City of Vienna is to provide the city’s population and guests with an attractive and safe outdoor exercise program despite the challenges posed by the Corona pandemic, it was emphasized. “Therefore, I am pleased that also this year the Vienna Ice Dream can take place at the Rathausplatz, in strict compliance with the given Corona protection measures. Thus, all Viennese who like ice skating can safely exercise in the fresh air. The Ice Room not only promotes the quality of life in the city, but also the health of the Viennese population – both physically and mentally,” emphasized Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ).

Finance City Councillor Peter Hanke (SPÖ), referring to the innovations, added: “And although we are still some way from the normality that everyone longs for, no one stands still at the Vienna Ice Room and there are exciting innovations to discover every season.”

The Wiener Eistraum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until March 6. The four-hour ticket costs 8.50 euros for adults (online store 7.65 euros) or 6 euros for children (online store: 5.40 euros). There is also skate rental and 40 “brand new” skating aids for beginners, according to the release.
