The United Nations expects up to ten million refugees from Ukraine because of the Russian war. Of these, four million people could move to neighboring countries, the UN said yesterday in New York.

Spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that this was an estimate. Already, more than a million people have left the country since the start of the Ukraine war, according to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

Canada to take in refugees indefinitely.

Canada is prepared to accept an “unlimited number” of Ukrainian refugees, according to Immigration Minister Sean Fraser. Most of the usual visa conditions have been suspended for this purpose, Fraser announced yesterday.

Instead, he said, his ministry has introduced a new visa category that allows Ukrainians accepted for it to live and work or study in Canada for up to two years. He added that it would be easier for Ukrainians with family members in Canada to live in the North American country.
