On Sunday 10,635 new infections were registered, the lowest Sunday figure since the beginning of the year. Eighteen more deaths were reported. For the first time in 11 weeks, there are fewer than 200,000 laboratory-confirmed actively infected people, and for the first time in nearly a month, there are fewer than 200 intensive care patients.
The seven-day incidence on Sunday was 1,113.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. There were now 192,043 laboratory-confirmed active cases nationwide, down 10,769 from Saturday. There were similarly few demonstrably infected people in Austria on January 22, when 197,088 active cases had been registered.
The trend also continues to be positive in contaminated hospitals. On Sunday, 2,495 Covid 19 patients were in hospitals, 33 fewer than on Saturday. In intensive care units, 191 critically ill patients must be cared for by 17 less than the previous day. There has been a decrease of 33 patients here since last Sunday. The last time fewer than 200 intensive care patients were treated was on March 14, 192.
The very high number of covid deaths continues in Austria. Eighteen deaths have been registered since Saturday, with a total of 241 victims last week. The Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 16,226 lives in Austria since it broke out. Per 100,000 population, 180.7 people have already died from or with Covid-19.
170,534 PCR and rapid antigen tests were reported in the past 24 hours. Of those, 156,488 were meaningful PCR tests, and the positive rate was 6.8 percent, higher than the weekly average, where an average of 4.8 percent of tests yielded positive results.
Federal Council gave its blessing to return of living room testing
There have already been 3,987,385 confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases in Austria since the pandemic began. There are 3,779,116 people considered recovered. The province with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Lower Austria with 1,375.3, followed by Vienna with 1,354.1, Burgenland with 1,271.1, and Vorarlberg with 1,233.5, followed by Upper Austria (1,080.4), Styria (863.7), Carinthia (855.9), Salzburg (853.2), and Tyrol (660.6).
The Corona vaccination helps against a severe course. Austria-wide, 1,989 vaccinations were carried out on Saturday, of which only 92 were first stings at all. In total, according to the data of the E-vaccination passport, 6,818,357 people have already received at least one vaccination. Exactly 6,181,474 people, or 68.8 percent of Austrians, have proper vaccination protection. Within the past week, 18,893 certificates expired.
