From Thursday to Friday, 7,569 new infections were registered in Austria. The number is below the 7-day average of 8,993 infections. The 7-day incidence drops to 707.23.
This brings the number of active Corona cases down to 114,840. Seventy-one thousand forty-seven new PCR tests were made in the past 24 hours. This results in a positive rate of 10.65 percent.
There are also 12 new deaths. This means that 19,080 people with SARS-CoV-2 infection have died across Austria.
There are currently 1,654 patients being treated in the hospital and 91 patients in intensive care units, two fewer than the previous day.
Immunizations
Nine thousand four hundred thirty-seven vaccinations have been carried out on Thursday, of which most – 7,619 – were booster vaccinations, that is, fourth, fifth, and each subsequent vaccination doses. Five million four hundred twenty-six thousand five hundred eighty-nine people, or 60.1 percent of Austrians, have been vaccinated as the National Immunization Panel (NIG) recommended. A total of 314,951 people have received a booster vaccination so far. As of Thursday, only 124 initial vaccinations had been administered.
The protection rate is highest in Burgenland, with 67.9 percent. In Lower Austria, 63.5 percent of the population has primary immunization, and in Styria, 61.6 percent. After Tyrol (58.4), Vienna (58.3), Carinthia (57.3), Vorarlberg (56.8), and Salzburg (56.2), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 55.6 percent.
