Over 400,000 vaccine doses will be made available starting November 2. Combination with CoV vaccination is also available. Registration is from October 24.
In addition to COVID-19, influenza has been almost forgotten in the last two years. Due to pandemic-related hygiene measures, it has spared us in recent winters. This grace period may now be over, experts fear. The example of Australia shows how it could also happen here. Similar to Europe, the flu in Australia has been “on hiatus” for the last two winters. This year, Australia rolled back hygiene measures and traveled restrictions to protect against the COVID-19 pandemic before winter – and influenza came back. The wave started as early as April, the equivalent of October in Europe, reports the Vaccine Manufacturers Association (ÖVIH).
Influenza vaccination is, therefore, critical this year, partly because there has been no natural boost from the circulating virus in the population over the past two years. Experts, therefore, advise everyone to be vaccinated against influenza. Even if the sting does not always prevent infection, vaccinated people usually get sick more mildly and for a shorter period, suffer complications less often, and do not have to go to the hospital as often. The influenza experts of the National Vaccination Panel recommend getting the influenza vaccination before the start of the cold season, i.e., in autumn.
The flu wave could become a tsunami this year
That’s why the City of Vienna is relaunching a free influenza vaccination campaign this year on November 2. 400,000 vaccination doses are made available for it. Interested persons can book an inoculation appointment from October 24 at noon online at http://impfservice.wien or by telephone with the health telephone at 1450. Combo vaccinations against Covid-19 can also be booked. Those who wish to be vaccinated by their primary care physician will make an appointment there.
The vaccination campaign is also available to businesses. The company itself must organize the necessary personnel. If you have any questions, please contact MA15.
Vaccinated – depending on the age of the person – one of the following flu vaccines:
- FluarixTetra® – completed 6th month of life – completed 24th month of life.
- Fluenz Tetra® (nasal) – completed 24th month of life – 15th birthday
- Vaxigrip Tetra® – completed 6th month of life & adults

Approximately half of the vaccine doses are administered at vaccination centers, with the other half administered in the community setting. All persons from the 7th month of life with living, education, and work center in Vienna, regardless of the place of residence, can take advantage of the vaccination offer. Especially over 65-year-olds, chronically ill persons, children, and medical staff are advised to vaccinate against influenza.
