Thursday and Friday, the first Christmas markets open in Vienna.
After a two-year break, Christmas markets can shine again this year in full splendor and without restrictions. In the federal capital Vienna, more than 20 Advent markets with more than 900 stalls will open in November. The first kick-off right away on Thursday and Friday, such as the “Winter im MQ.”
From November 10 to December 23, 2022, the Christmas Market in the MuseumsQuartier offers a diverse program of live concerts and DJ sets. There is also a curling rink. With opening hours until 11 pm, you can enjoy the punch here the longest.
Then, on Friday, the Christmas Market at the Hof opens, the Advent Genussmarkt near the Opera, the Christmas Market at Stephansplatz, the K. u. k. Weihnachtsmarkt Michaelerplatz, the Christmas market on Vienna’s Spittelberg, the Christmas market in Türkenschanzpark, the Advent market in Favoriten and that in Meidling, as well as the Christmas village Unicampus/Altes AKH.
At Rathausplatz, on the other hand, preparations are still underway. The stalls there will not open until November 19. The traditional Christkindlmark relies on a new concept. Due to the energy crisis, the market will be reduced in size and will start later. At Schönbrunn Palace, too, things won’t get underway until November 19.
The Christmas village on Maria-Theresien-Platz will also start a little later on November 16. From November 17, “Weihnacht im Wald” in the Vienna Prater invites visitors to browse.
The Artadvent in front of St. Charles Church, the Christmas Village at Belvedere Palace, and the Altwiener Christkindlmarkt on the Freyung open on November 18.
The Artadvent in front of the Karlskirche impresses primarily with its artistic and handicraft offer. The straw landscape in front of the church and the various ring games are especially popular with children.
