In a TikTok video, a doctor names 5 body parts that are washed far too rarely and go viral with it.
Shower in the morning or in the evening? Once a day, twice, or just a few times a week? When it comes to personal hygiene, everyone has their routine. But there’s one thing everyone should take to heart: washing regularly. According to one expert, however, most of us don’t do this thoroughly enough. Dr. Jen Caudle is a family doctor, professor of medicine and TV health expert who shares tips and explanations about health issues on social media and dispels all the myths.

A recently posted video on her TikTok channel @drjencaudle generated a particularly large amount of attention, with over 1.7 million views and thousands of comments. She names five body parts that don’t get enough attention and should be washed more often.

You should wash these 5 body parts more often

  1. belly button
The belly button is one of the body parts that are washed too seldom. Caudle explains that many would not only wash their belly button infrequently but not at all. Saying, “Guys, it’s going to be gross if you don’t,” she regularly appeals to people to clean this area.

  1. ears
According to the expert, the ears are in second place. To be precise, the upper area of the outer ear (also called the helix), the earlobes and the area behind the ears. According to Caudle, you can use this trick to find out if you wash your ears too infrequently and if odour-causing bacteria have already accumulated: Simply rub your index finger up and down behind your ears and smell your finger. If you smell an unpleasant odour, you know.
  2. the area under the fingernails
Dirt, skin flakes and germs collect under the fingernails during the day. Conventional hand washing is often not enough here. So-called nail brushes help clean this area properly.
  3. legs
Caudle dispels the myth that the foam produced by soap or shower gel will clean the skin or legs properly. That is not the case. The doctor gets specific: “Please wash your legs thoroughly!”

  1. Toe Spaces.
Number five on the list of body parts often overlooked or not cleaned thoroughly is the toes, especially the spaces between them. Claude also explains why this is so important: “You want to ensure you’re preventing infections of all kinds. So make sure you wash your toes very deliberately.”
