Since midnight, the tightened measures to contain SARS-CoV-2 have come into force, which the federal government has ordered nationwide in order to prevent a second lockdown, as Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) explained in view of the recent sharp rise in infection figures, also by international standards. “What we are witnessing is the beginning of the second wave,” Kurz warned on Sunday.
Since 0 o’clock, mouth and nose protection must be worn indoors, not only in supermarkets, but in the entire retail sector, in the service sector, at authorities with customer contact and in schools outside the classroom.

Gastro: Food and drinks only at the seat
In the gastronomy, masks are compulsory for service personnel, and food and drinks are only reserved at the seat. Masks are also being used for sports – in the checkroom area mouth and nose must be covered.

Large events: 3000-person limit outdoors, 1500 indoor
Outdoor events without assigned and marked seats are limited to 100, indoor events to 50 persons. For large events with assigned seats and a security concept a limit of 3000 persons outside and 1500 persons inside applies. For cultural events the mask may only be removed at the seat.

Government to businesses: continue home office!
Meanwhile, on Sunday the leaders of the federal government met with the social partners to discuss further measures in the fight against the rising number of new corona infections. It was agreed that companies should continue to offer their employees the opportunity to work from their home office. “Where it works well and experiences are positive, it should be continued and expanded,” said Chancellor Kurz at a subsequent press conference. “This will certainly help,” added Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler.

Corona Commission meets Monday evening
Already on Monday evening the Corona commission meets for a special meeting, which communicated its recommendations for the switching of the Corona traffic lights to the Federal Government last always on Thursdays. “Considering the rising number of cases of the past days the detailed analysis of the current events is absolutely necessary”, was said on Sunday regarding the aussertourlichen date. The recent developments would make a reassessment of the epidemiological situation necessary.
