For many WhatsApp users, receiving voice messages causes eye-rolling. For many, it’s an annoying affair listening to the rambling until they finally get to the point. A few written words would have done the trick.

It is often more practical to speak on the cell phone than to laboriously search for the right letters on the keyboard. However, for the recipient of a voice message, this is usually anything but practical.

More order in voice messages
Be that as it may. Voice messages are very popular, so WhatsApp regularly expands its range of functions. A new feature will soon be added to increase voice message order.

Although you can reply directly to individual chat messages in WhatsApp, this is not yet possible for voice messages. In the future, however, a dedicated button will be available to reply directly to a voice message.

Reply directly to voice messages
This function will be particularly useful if you receive several voice messages in a row or in group chats. The new button is a grey microphone icon next to the voice message.

WABetaInfo discovered the new function in a test version of Messenger. It is unclear when the feature will be released. The new button has already appeared in the Android and iPhone versions of WhatsApp.

Practical function for voice messages
Just a few weeks ago, WhatsApp introduced a particularly practical function for voice messages. Since then, voice messages can be transcribed, so you no longer have to listen to the entire message.

Transcribing must be activated
However, activating this feature and downloading the corresponding language pack is necessary. This is how it works:

Open “Settings” (on Android, tap the 3-dot icon in the top right-hand corner).
Select “Chats.”
Activate “Transcriptions of voice messages.”
Select language
Download the language pack.
Once you have done this, press and hold a voice message until a pop-up menu appears. Select “Transcribe,” and the spoken message will be in text form.
